What Kind Of Church Is New Life?

A Friendly Church

Our desire is that everyone feel the love of God
when they are with us. Our desire is that the lonely will find a family and be ministered and loved on.

A Worshiping Church

It is our hope that our worship will bring glory to Jesus Christ,
and that it is drenched with both the holiness of God
and the intimacy of His love.

A Biblical Church

It is our aim for the morning message, to be Bible based.
An encouragement straight out of God's word
directly to the heart of His people.
A message that can minister to everyone,
touching on the issues we all face every day.

A Maturing Church

We desire to help anyone who is on the journey to know God
and to discover who Jesus Christ and God's Holy Spirit is.
We want to be a place where you will be encouraged to read His word as you seek to become more like Jesus.

A Purpose Driven Church

We endeavor to do five things, and do them as well as we can:
  1. To introduce people to Jesus Christ
                       2. To connect people in Christ-centered relationships
                       3. To enable people to become more like Jesus Christ
  4. To care for and serve one another
5. To worship God with all our lives.
No more, and no less.

 A Missions Minded Church

A church that has a strong desire to serve not only New Life and our church family,
but also to our community and to the world.
(Please see our missions page)

We are also blessed to be a member of a network of churches called the Evangelical Free Church of America.

Our History

Our church was born on January 4, 1959.
Our first building was on the corner of Henry and Bush.
We met there for 18 months.
In January of 1960 a church on Jones Street was purchased.
We eventually sold that property to another church
and moved to our present location.
Worship services began in our current building in March of 1979.
Our church has twice given birth to daughter churches,
in Kelseyville and Willits.

Our Vision

New Life Community Church exists to bring New Life in Christ to all people.

It is our desire for every single person in the greater Ukiah area to have a personal and intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. This includes what is known as both evangelism and discipleship. We want every single person to come to know Christ (I Tim. 2:4). Therefore, we will do whatever we can to make sure that each person has an opportunity to hear the gospel (I Cor. 9:22). For those that respond in faith, we exist to help them come to know Jesus intimately and walk in his steps (John 17:3, Col. 1:28, James 1:4, Eph. 4:11-13, I John 2:6).

OUR MISSION AND STRATEGIES
We will work to accomplish this vision by focusing on five things: Worship, Discipleship, Evangelism, Fellowship, and Compassion.

In regard to WORSHIP, we want all people to surrender their entire lives to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. This is the only logical response to God's mercy, grace, and forgiveness (Romans 12:1). One day every knee shall bow before Christ, but our desire is to see everyone worship him today. We do this primarily through our Sunday morning worship service.

In regard to DISCIPLESHIP, we will "proclaim [Christ], admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. To this end [we] will labor, struggling with all his energy, which works so powerfully in [us] (Col. 1:28-29). We do this through Sunday School classes and other small groups.

In regard to EVANGELISM, we will do whatever we can to take the good news of forgiveness and new life in Christ to every single person in our area regardless of their social status or nationality. The kingdom of God is filled with people from "every nation, tribe, people, and language standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb" (Rev. 7:9) who have trusted in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of their sins. We do this by equipping people to share their faith, through fun activities such as softball, and mid-week children's and youth ministries. We also proclaim the gospel in our worship services. We also enthusiastically support a variety of missionaries who have gone out from our congregation to the ends of the world.

In regard to FELLOWSHIP, we want to not only be the friendliest place in town, we also want to be a place where people can develop deep and intimate friendships as we partner in the work of the gospel. We accomplish this best through mid-week home fellowship groups. It is vitally important that every person at New Life Community Church become involved in a smaller fellowship group.

In regard to COMPASSION, we seek to be aware of each other's needs, and to meet those needs, particularly through small groups (I John 3:16-18). We also have a benevolent ministry that responds to great burdens that people bear (Galatians 6:2) while also seeking to help people carry their own loads (Galatians 6:5). We are also involved in serving the needs of the poor and homeless in our community by partnering with organizations such as the Buddy Eller Center and the Community Center of Ukiah.

We believe that this is what God has called his church to do. By doing these things, we will be salt and light in our community. Because time is short and resources are limited, we choose to be faithful to do all of these things, and no more. We invite you to join us in our pursuit of these things so that everyone will "be glad and honor the word of the Lord, and all who [have been] appointed for eternal life believe" (Acts 13:48).

What We Believe

The Bible — The very words of God.
We believe the Bible, Old Testament and New Testament, is the verbally inspired word and revelation of God, inerrant, infallible and God-breathed. It is the final authority for the Christian's faith and life.

(2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:16-21, 2 Timothy 1:13, Psalm 19:7-11, 119:105, 160, Proverbs 30:5)

The Trinity — One God existing as three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We believe in one God, Creator of all things, infinitely powerful, present everywhere, and all-knowing, existing in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

(Genesis 1:1, 26-27, 3:22, Psalm 90:2, Matthew 28:19-20, John 5:1-8, 1 Peter 1:2, 2 Corinthians 13:14)

God the Father — The Great I AM
We believe in God, the Father, an infinite, personal spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love. We believe that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through His son, Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ — The image of the invisible God, fully human and fully divine.
We believe that Jesus Christ existed eternally before His incarnation (John 1:1-2; Phil. 2:5-8), took on human flesh through the virginal conception and birth (Luke 1:26-38; 2:1-7; Matthew 1:18-25), lived a sinless life (1 Peter 2:22), and died on the cross as a substitute for the sin of all (1 Tim. 2:3-6; 2 Cor. 5:14, 19, 21). He was raised bodily from the dead (1 Cor. 15), ascended into heaven where he has the name which is above every name (Acts 4:12; Php. 2:9-11), and is at the right hand of God as our High Priest, Advocate, Mediator, and Intercessor (Heb. 4:14-15; 1 John 2:1; 2 Tim. 2:5; Rom. 8:33-34). We believe that he is both fully God and fully human.

(Matthew 1:22-23, Isaiah 9:6, John 1:1-5, 14:10-30, Hebrews 4:14-15, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Romans 1:3-4, Acts 1:9-11, 1 Timothy 6:14-15, Titus 2:13)

The Holy Spirit — The Helper who empowers Christians to follow Jesus Christ.
We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ, to comfort, to counsel, and to illuminate the scriptures to the believer, to empower the believer for a lifestyle that is pleasing to the Lord, and to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 14:16-17). His baptism comes at conversion (1 Cor. 12:13), immersing us into the body of Christ. His indwelling is continual, but His filling is contingent on the believer's obedience (Eph. 5:18).

(Romans 8:9, John 16:7-13, Acts 1:8, 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16, 2 Corinthians 3:17, Ephesians 1:13, Galatians 5:25, Ephesians 5:18)

The Nature of Man — Sinful by nature and by choice.
We believe that man was created in the image of God but fell as a result of disobedience and is therefore lost (without God), dead in sin and alienated from the life of God. (Gen. 1-3; Eph 2:1-3; Col. 1:21).

(Genesis 1:27, Psalm 8:3-6, Romans 3:23, Isaiah 59:2, Psalm 51:5, 1 John 1:8)

Salvation — A free gift of God, that we neither earn nor deserve.
We believe that the death of Jesus and His resurrection provide the only ground for justification, reconciliation and salvation for all who believe. It is only through being born again by the Spirit of God that a person is given the irrevocable gift of salvation and the honor of being a child of God. (Titus 3:4-5; John 1:12; 3:1-16; 10:27-29; 1 John 5:11-13).

(Romans 6:23, Romans 5:8, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Romans 10:9-10, John 3:16, John 14:6, John 1:12, Acts 5:31, Acts 11:18, 2 Timothy 2:25, Titus 3:5.)

The Church —All true believers in Jesus Christ: his bride, his body and his family.
We believe in the Great Commission of the Lord Jesus Christ to evangelize and disciple all nations, baptizing (immersing) them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all that Jesus commanded. The church is composed of those who through saving faith have been reconciled to God and regenerated (born again) by the Holy Spirit. (Titus 4:4-5; John 3:1-5, 16-17). Jesus Christ is the head of His church and the church is his body. (Ephesians 1:22-23; Col. 1:18).

Responsibility of Believers — created to do good works.
We believe all followers of the Lord Jesus Christ should do good works (Eph. 2:10; 4:1-32; Titus 2; 3:1-11; 2 Cor. 5:10).

Baptism & Communion — Remembering the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
We believe that water baptism and the Lord's Supper are ordinances to be observed by His church. They are not, however, to be regarded as a means of salvation. (Acts 2:38; Rom. 6:3-7; 1 Cor. 11:23-26).

Rewards and Punishments — The way we live our life matters for eternity.
We believe that Heaven is a place for eternal blessedness and that Hell is a place of eternal suffering. (2 Cor. 5:1-10; Rev. 20:1-15).

The Last Things — Jesus is coming back for his bride!
We believe in the personal, pre-millennial and imminent coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thess. 4-5, 1 Cor. 15:50-55; Rev. 19:19-20; 20:1-6).

John 15:5

"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I
in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing".
